Official: Thibaut Courtois extends Real Madrid contract until 2027
Real Madrid have reached a full agreement with Thibaut Courtois to extend his contract until June 2027, as reported by MARCA. The deal is done — only the official announcement remains.
Courtois’ previous contract was set to run until 2026. The new agreement adds an additional year with no conditional clauses or performance-based triggers. It’s a clean, one-year extension — a clear sign of the club’s continued trust in its No. 1.
Still the main man in goal
Despite recovering from a long-term injury, Courtois remains the undisputed starter for Real Madrid. The club made that clear during the season and again now by moving quickly to secure his future. There was never any serious intention to replace him — not even when names like Joan Garcia were floated as potential signings.
With Xabi Alonso also reaffirming Courtois’ status as first-choice during the Club World Cup, there’s no doubt about the hierarchy: Courtois leads, Lunin backs up.
Early renewal, no last-minute drama
This agreement comes well ahead of time, unlike the last-minute renewals for veterans like Luka Modrić or Lucas Vázquez last season. Madrid handled this one proactively — no uncertainty, no distractions.
It’s also in line with the club’s contract policy for players over 30. As expected, no option for a second year was included. Real Madrid are sticking to their year-by-year renewal approach, regardless of the player’s status.
A pillar since 2018
Courtois has been a cornerstone of this team since joining from Chelsea in 2018. From Champions League heroics to La Liga dominance, his presence has been massive. Now, with this new deal, he’s set to continue leading from the back well into 2027.
He’ll rejoin the squad on August 4, fully focused on the season ahead.
